2008 News Archive - Holidays - Flights to Florida 'becoming cheaper'

30 12 2008

Tourists thinking about soaking up some winter sun on the beaches of Florida may be pleased to hear that flights to the "sunshine state" are becoming cheaper, according to one local newspaper.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that the price of some flights has fallen by as much as two-thirds over the festive season and claims that tourists to sunny Florida may be best placed to enjoy the "silver lining"on the cloud of the worldwide economic downturn.

According to the newspaper the fall in the cost of flights is related to the falling price of oil, as well as the slump in demand because of the recession.

Rick Seaney, chief executive of the travel website Farecompare.com said Ailines had been launching "pretty much continuous holiday-airfare sales" to Florida since Halloween and some prices have fallen as much as 40 per cent below their mid-October levels.

Florida has long been a favourite winter sun destination for UK families with Orlando boasting some of the world's best known family attractions such as Walt Disney World.
