2008 News Archive - Holidays - Florida 'popular for overseas visitors'

11 06 2008

Florida is a popular state when it comes to visits from overseas travellers, new statistics have shown.

Figures from the US Commerce Department reveal that while New York was top of the list with 7.6 million foreign visitors in 2007, Florida received 4.7 million foreign visitors.

Last year, Miami attracted 2.3 million tourists while Orlando, with attractions such as Sea World, drew in 2.1 million tourists, the Commerce Department revealed.

The news comes after the Orlando Sentinel revealed that Disney's World of Sports intends to open what is anticipated to be one of the largest bowling stadia in the United States.

When not in use for domestic and international competitions, the 100-lane stadium would be open to the public including the millions of tourists that visit Florida annually.

"Bowling is a tremendous family sport, and Disney is a tremendous family venue," John Berglund, executive director of the Bowling Proprietors Association of America told the publication.
