2008 News Archive - Holidays - Give your ears a treat at the Istanbul Music Festival

24 05 2007

This summer will once again see the famed Istanbul Music Festival host some of the most talented artists in the world and attract music lovers from across Europe.

The festival, held from June 2nd to the 20th, is to predominantly take place in the beautiful Hagia Eirene Museum and the Ataturk Cultural Centre.

However, there will be at least one classical concert in the ancient St Irene's Church, built in the fourth century by Emperor Constantine himself.

Mitsuko Uchida, the famous Japanese pianist, will be attending and Mozart fans will not want to miss his beautiful renditions.

Meanwhile, fans of Bach will want to catch the Goldberg Variations.

The locally based Borusan Ystanbul Philharmonic Orchestra will also be playing and will be accompanied by the renowned Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu.

While in Istanbul it is a must to visit the beautiful Hagia Sophia and of course the Obelisk of Thutmosis III should not be missed.

In 2006 over 23 million tourists visited Istanbul and it only takes being there for a few hours before one realises why.
