2008 News Archive - Holidays - Growth in passengers 'means increased airline security screening'

08 04 2008

The number of air travel passengers is set to grow in Europe, which will lead to improved security at terminals and hubs, it has been claimed.

According to Frost and Sullivan, as more Europeans and Britons take holidays abroad, airports are "revamping and redesigning" with a focus on improving security.

The company claims that the security market in top European airports, made $28.5 billion in 2007 and estimates this to reach $72.4 billion by 2017.

"Most notably, airport expansions and the desire to implement cutting-edge security technology will drive the market. The number of passengers in airports is on the rise, compelling the procurement of additional security equipment," Frost and Sullivan industry analyst Marie-France Mann commented.

Frost and Sullivan claims that the biggest challenge for airport screening equipment manufacturers is to help airports attain a perfect balance between security and facilitation.

Security at airports in Europe and abroad most notably increased following the September 11th attacks in the US.
