2008 News Archive - Holidays - Half of Brits opt for 'package holidays'

18 09 2008

Millions of British holidaymakers still choose to make their bookings through tour operators, new research has revealed.

A recent study carried out by Mintel revealed that 53 per cent of holidaymakers booked a package break over the last 12 months, suggesting that consumers still enjoy the security of booking through professional tour operators.

Dermot Blastland, managing director of TUI Travel for the UK and Ireland, told Travel Weekly: "We think the package holiday is very robust and the market is actually stable and not declining."

Research also suggested that an increasing number of holidaymakers are opting to travel to countries outside the eurozone - such as Turkey and Egypt – in order to make their money stretch further.

Meanwhile, a recent study carried out by Holiday Extras revealed that most Britons spend between £500 and £1,000 on their annual holiday abroad.
