2008 News Archive - Holidays - 'Head north' for a quieter Tenerife

07 11 2008

Visitors looking for something more relaxing from their cheap holiday deals might like to consider the north coast of Tenerife, according to one newspaper.

The Telegraph has hailed the north part of the island - located a short drive away from livelier resorts such as Playa de las Americas - as Tenerife's "authentic face".

San Cristobal de la Laguna, Tenerife's former capital, is located in this part of the island, as is the colonial municipality of Garachico.

A cooler climate makes this region perfect for exploring the natural beauty and old towns at a pace that suits.

"Now is an ideal time to visit, but don't expect the fierce temperatures enjoyed by sun-worshippers in the south," said the newspaper's Louise Roddon.

Another UK newspaper - the Mirror - recently praised Tenerife as a cheap holiday destination for its "amazing" food and drink, volcanoes and cultural attractions.
