2008 News Archive - Holidays - 'Heed weather warnings before going on holidays'

29 05 2008

Britons travelling abroad for their holidays this June should heed weather warnings during the hurricane season, it has been suggested.

esure, a travel insurance provider, highlighted that the majority of people booking holidays to the US and Asia are unaware of when hurricane and monsoon seasons start at their destinations.

And with June being a popular month for weddings, the 67 per cent of newlyweds who plan to spend their honeymoon abroad could risk encountering severe weather problems.

"A holiday package may look great from the outset, but come holiday time - you could be caught out by flying out to your destination, such as Mexico, during the hurricane season," warned Jacky Brown, head of travel insurance at esure.

She added that such extreme weather leads to delays and flight cancellations, highlighting the need for travel insurance.

Research by the insurance provider found that one-fifth of people heading abroad on holidays will not take out travel insurance.
