2008 News Archive - Holidays - Holiday bookings 'soar'

05 09 2008

Those who decided to brave the rain and holiday at home this year will not be making the same mistake twice.

According to reports, bookings for 2009 holidays are "soaring", as sun-starved Brits look to escape the dreadful weather.

Some tour operators have seen their bookings increase by as much as 150 per cent, the Evening Standard claimed, with breaks in the Mediterranean proving particularly popular.

Jonathan White, the managing director of one travel firm, told the publication: "We've spoken to lots of people who have sat through the wet weather here.
Their view is simple: blow the recession: We need to get away somewhere warm."

This summer has reportedly been the tenth wettest since records began, wish August seeing an average of 30 per cent less sunshine than in previous years.

In related news, Travel Weekly recently reported that over five million Brits are expected to book holidays over the next few months.
