2008 News Archive - Holidays - Holiday bookings 'up' in 2008

03 04 2008

Holiday bookings in 2008 have risen significantly since January, it has been reported.

According to Multicom, bookings made through travel agents and on the internet have risen by 40 per cent in the first three months of 2008.

General manager of the company Chris Nourse added that increased bill payments and the current credit crunch seem unlikely to affect holidays.

"Years ago, holidays abroad were seen as a luxury for the few who could afford them. Now it seems they are being seen as more and more essential," he commented.

While Mr Nourse stopped short of saying that the travel industry would not be affected by increases in household bills, he stated that the industry "might be less susceptible than had previously been thought".

According to Post Office, an incoming credit crunch could see the decline of longer one and two week holidays and an increase in shorter breaks to cheaper city destinations across Europe.
