2008 News Archive - Holidays - Holiday hunger 'unaffected by economic pessimism'

01 08 2008

Many people are looking forward to booking their holiday despite ongoing concerns about the credit crunch, according to one commentator.

Ian Bradley, spokesperson for the Association of Independent Tour Operators, confirmed that the possible downturn in the economy is having little impact on forward bookings as people take advantage of early bird offers.

In particular, people are keen to ensure they can still afford their annual break, especially if they are going to have to cut back in other areas of their life and put in extra hours at the office to make ends meet.

"People are feeling the squeeze but they are not going to give up on their holidays ... the one thing they are not going to abandon is their holiday," explained Mr Bradley.

"It's not a luxury, it's a necessity for most people. "

A recent BBC survey discovered that over a third of Brits will continue to take overseas holidays even if the UK's economy enters a recession.
