2008 News Archive - Holidays - Holidaymakers flock to stunning Red Sea resorts

01 03 2007

The Red Sea resorts of Egypt are proving increasingly popular among winter sun seekers.

People from countries across Europe such as Russia, Germany and Britain are flocking to Egypt to enjoy the year-round good weather conditions that the country has to offer.

According to All Headline News, one particularly popular resort among tourists is Hurghada, which is on the Red Sea coast. Ashraf Ahmed, hotel manager of the Dana Beach Resort, told the news corporation that this winter has been one of the most prosperous the resort has ever seen.

"This is great for hotel and for Egypt because at a time when we usually do not have that many visitors, the temperatures in Europe are very cold so people want to come here and get some warm weather," Mr Ahmed said.

Egypt's popularity with British holidaymakers in particular has grown rapidly in the past few years with over one million Brits visiting the country in 2006. The figure represents a 23 per cent rise on the number that visited in 2005.

As well as offering world-class scuba diving conditions and the pyramids, Egypt is also famed for the Nile cruises, offering tourists the chance to retrace the same routes as Egypt's legendary kings and queens.

The total value of tourism to Egypt in 2006 was over $7 billion.
