2008 News Archive - Holidays - Holidaymakers plan 'autumn escape'

24 09 2008

Following the rainy summer, millions of holidaymakers are putting their economic woes to one side and preparing to make an autumn getaway, new research has revealed.

A survey by online travel community TripAdvisor revealed that 18 per cent of people are planning to take a holiday over the coming months.

Making the most of low prices and escaping the crowds are two of the most popular reasons for taking an autumn break, while 29 per cent of people claimed that autumn was the perfect time to enjoy a "romantic" break in the sun.

TripAdvisor's European communication manager Ian Rumgay commented: "Autumn is a great time to travel for many people and it would seem that the economic woes are not going to deter them."

In related news, a recent survey by alpharooms.com found that despite the credit crunch, a majority of British people are unwilling to sacrifice their hard-earned holidays.

Of those surveyed, 82 per cent said they would rather tighten their belts and scrimp on household expenses than sacrifice their trips abroad.
