2008 News Archive - Holidays - Holidaymakers seduced by Africa

30 01 2007

Africa's tourism industry enjoyed a growth rate of 8.1 per cent in 2006, dwarfing the international average of 4.5 per cent.

Central to this staggering rate of growth was Kenya, which remains one of Africa's most valued destinations.

A sustained marketing campaign from the country's tourism association has spread the word that Kenya has a huge amount to offer holidaymakers, ranging from glorious sandy beaches to enormous game parks and the Great Rift Valley.

Organised safaris in Kenya allow visitors to gain a real appreciation of the country's magnificent wildlife and scenery, but holidaymakers are also encouraged to sample the markets and bazaars of the nearby towns and villages.

Another of Kenya's delights comes in the shape of Lamu Island, which boasts some of the most spectacular beaches imaginable.

According to the figures from the World Tourism Organisation, Subsaharan Africa has led the tourism growth with a rate of 9.4 per cent. South Africa and Morocco have also been highlighted as examples of Africa's outstanding performance in 2006.
