2008 News Archive - Holidays - Holidaymakers urged to 'buy travel insurance'

19 09 2008

Failing to take out a travel insurance policy could lead to high medical bills and repatriation costs, British holidaymakers have been warned.

The warning comes after research carried out by YouGov and America Express revealed that one in four Brits are planning to travel without insurance this year.

Chris Rolland, head of American Express insurance services, said that travel cover was essential and claimed that those who could not afford a policy should think twice about booking a holiday.

"Should something happen, the current economic market means that the last thing Brits need now is an unexpected bill."

In order to save money, Mr Rolland recommended that those who travel frequently opt for an annual insurance policy.

"It will save them more money in the long run and help them to avoid being financially stung while they should be relaxing on holiday," he added.

Meanwhile, recent figures from Mintel revealed that Britons tool 46 million holidays overseas in the last year.
