2008 News Archive - Holidays - Holidays 'are about cultural experiences'

24 07 2008

Britons are no longer happy to simply lie on the beach while on holiday, instead they want to enjoy cultural experiences, it has been claimed.

According to Celtic Castles, despite the impending credit crunch, cost is not the major concern for Britons when booking trips abroad, other factors take priority such as weather and the location of the destination in relation to cultural attractions.

Research by the company revealed that this is the case for 57 per cent of holidaymakers.

"The internet puts a phenomenal range of holiday opportunities at people's fingertips - the days of being restricted to high street package breaks are over. People want more to show for their trips than a tan – it's about cultural experiences and personal satisfaction," the company's founder Roger Masterson commented.

He added that while Brits are not spending less, they are looking to get more for their money.

Recently, Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at moneysupermarket.com, noted that Britons are looking to do more than relax by the pool this summer.
