The average pair of newlyweds in the UK spends £1,614 on their honeymoon, a new survey has found.
According to esure, couples who want to jet off after their nuptials spend more now that in recent years, with the 1980s average honeymoon cost being £547.
It was also discovered that relaxing beach holidays have seen a rise in popularity, with about half of all couples celebrating their marriage with some sun and sand.
In addition, a fifth of honeymooners use the experience to see a number of different countries, compared to 1980s couples - seven per cent of which took in more than one destination on their travels.
"Nowadays, the honeymoon is seen as a much bigger deal, as it offers the chance to have a dream holiday before couples can truly settle down to married life," said Mike Picard, esure's head of travel insurance.
"It's interesting to see how trends have changed over the years."
According to Destinology, some of the top ten honeymoon destinations include the Maldives, Barbados and St Lucia.
