2008 News Archive - Holidays - Ironman Triathlon in Lanzarote

22 02 2008

This May Lanzarote is hosting its 17th Ironman Triathlon - considered by many, thanks to the heat and level of endurance required, to be the toughest ironman challenge around.

Comprising of a 3.8 kilometre swim, a 180 kilometre bike ride and a 42.2 kilometre run, this competition is not for the fainthearted.

And while an ironman triathlon might not be every holidaymaker's cup of tea, it is certainly an impressive event to attend as a spectator.

"You will love the awe-inspiring beauty of this breathtaking volcanic island, the magnetic charm and hypnotic appeal of both the island of Lanzarote and the race, often described as the Hawaii of Europe," organisers claim.

The schedule of events is spread over a number of days and also include fun events for youngsters.

The Iron Kids competition is split into five categories, from Prebenjamin to cadete with the first swimming 25 metres and running for 500 metres and the latter swimming 200 metres and running 2,500 metres.
