2008 News Archive - Holidays - Kenya celebrates

08 10 2007

Kenya is a country filled with culture and traditions waiting for an intrepid Brit to explore.

December could be the best time to visit this African nation as it celebrates one of its most important days of the year, Whatsonwhen notes.

According to the publication, December 12th is when the country celebrates its independence from Britain and thus is an important holiday for Kenyans.

Called Jamhuri day, Kenya will mark its 44th year of independence this year with a multitude of traditional entertainment and events.

Speeches, dancing and feasting will all be part of the festivities, as well as military parades and air shows.

Part of the feasting is likely to include the eating of local delicacies, such as Ugali and Githeri.

Mursik and Ingoho are also dishes to keep an eye out for and taste buds on the ready.

Kenya is located on the east coast of Africa, with a shoreline on the Indian Ocean.
