2008 News Archive - Holidays - Kenya relaunches tourism

23 04 2008

Kenya, along with several other African countries, is back on course in terms of tourism, it has been reported.

According to TravelMole, United Nations World Trade Organisation (UNWTO) secretary-general Francesco Frangialli is due to visit Kenya in a bid to support the country's tourism potential.

An UNWTO World Tourism Barometer recently revealed that Africa saw an increase in international tourist arrivals above eight per cent in 2007 the equivalent of an additional 44 million travellers.

"These figures prove that tourism has the potential to foster sustainable development and Africa as a whole is among the top growing regions. But many countries who have experienced less favourable developments in the recent past have now the opportunity to regain tourism strength," Mr Frangialli commented.

According to TravelMole, Kenya has "always" been a top African tourist destination, thanks to its wildlife and costal attractions.

Testament to the revival of tourism in Kenya is the fact that British supermodel Naomi Campbell enjoyed a break in the country last month, describing Kenya as "safe" as well as "peaceful and tranquil".
