2008 News Archive - Holidays - Lanzarote to undergo 'transformation'

31 10 2008

Lanzarote, one of Europe's most popular holiday hotspots, is set to benefit from a multi-million euro investment, aimed at transforming the resort of Puerto del Carmen.

Authorities on the island are hoping to turn the resort into Lanzarote's answer to Puerto Banus.

The project includes plans to transform the old harbour area into a modern arena, in a bid to attract more luxury yachts to the resort.

Money will also be used to fund the pedestrianisation of Avenida de las Playas and harmonise some of the resort's shop fronts and fascias, Typically Spanish reports.

This latest round of investment follows the recent construction of an impressive new golf course in the area, which is set to open to the public in 2009.

The most easterly of the Canary Islands, Lanzarote has long been a favourite of British holidaymakers, with top attractions including Timanfaya National Park, the Wine Museum of Lanzarote and the Cave of Los Verdes.
