Born again gambling paradise Macau will see an influx of between 24 million and 25 million visitors in 2007, according to the city's Tourism Services, reports Macau Hub.

Since gaining independence from Portugal in 1999, the island city has been transformed into a gambling destination that has outstripped Las Vegas as the largest gaming market in the world.

Massive investment from the Americans like the billionaire Steve Wynn and the construction of several new sumptuous casinos have turned the former colony's fortunes around.

Once known for prostitution and triad wars, Macau is now seen as a place where the whole family can go to gamble.

The Sands Macau is the largest casino with in the world with 740 tables and includes a VIP hotel with 51 luxury suites. And Wynn Macau has 375 slot machines, nicknamed "hungry dragons" by the Chinese.

British entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson is currently planning to construct a £1.5 billion casino resort on the island.

So if bright lights and a flutter in an exotic locale is what you're after on holiday, Macau awaits.
