2008 News Archive - Holidays - Madrid to host music festival

07 02 2007

A major festival devoted to the issue of climate change will be held in the spectacular city of Madrid in June 2008.

According to Typically Spanish, Rock in Rio will attract global icons from the world of music, all of whom have an interest in the increasingly pressing issue of global warming.

In previous years, the festival - which began life in Brazil - has attracted the likes of Queen, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, Prince, Santana, George Michael, R.E.M., Britney Spears and Oasis.

While next year's line-up has not been confirmed, Madrid will already be buzzing with excitement at the prospect of the world's most popular acts coming to town.

Madrid is a truly beautiful capital city, famed for beautiful architecture, vibrant streets and a number of world-renowned museums.

The 18th century Royal Palace is also worth a visit, as is the charming Plaza Mayor - Madrid's most important square.

Those hoping to check out the city in advance of next year's Rock in Rio are advised to stay in one of Madrid's many excellent hotels before taking a drive out to the mountains of the Sierra de Guadarrama.
