2008 News Archive - Holidays - 'Magical white Christmas' forecast for Florida

07 11 2008

Tourists dreaming of a white Christmas may not normally choose a sunny Florida beach holiday - but showers of magical snow are being forecast by the Islamorada Chamber of Commerce (ICC) this year as it kicks off the annual Florida Keys Holiday Festival.

The festival, which takes place on December 5th, will kick off with a holiday tree blowing magical snow, surrounded by a chorus of carol singers.

A Winter Wonderland parade featuring Santa himself will then wind its way through the seaside village, bringing a traditional festive flavour to the sunny Florida Keys.

The ICC also promises an arts and crafts Christmas bazaar, music and wine tasting events.

Florida Keys is more usually associated with sun, sand and water sports, enjoying a reputation as a haven for family beach holidays year-round.

The area is also renowned for its dolphins, as Chelle Walton told Visit Florida: "Except for the gator, few animals are more associated with Florida than the dolphin."

Visitors to Florida this Christmas could be singing carols in the snow one day and swimming with dolphins the next.
