When A-list celebrity Tom Cruise recently married TV-actress Katie Holmes, he could have chosen literally anywhere in the world for his honeymoon.

He ended up choosing the Indian Ocean paradise of the Maldives.

So did multimillionaire Sir Phillip Green, the owner of Top Shop, when he had to choose where to celebrate his 55th birthday.

The owner of the Arcadia Group is to fly over 100 of his nearest and dearest, Kate Moss, Simon Cowell and Eddie Jordan, out from Stanstead Airport to beautiful group of atolls.

'Philip Green's a very hard businessman but he also likes to have a good party,' said Richard Hyman, managing director of market research group Verdict.

Tourism is the tiny country's primary industry and contributes 20 per cent of the gross domestic product.

Consisting of 25 atolls and 1,192 islets, the nation is surrounded by water of a beautiful cerulean blue.

Travel writer Susie Boswell writes of the Maldives: "Water sports are a highlight. Magnificent corals and tropical fish lie at your feet as you wade into the welcoming wetness just steps from your bungalow or villa.

"Then there's surfing, windsurfing, sailing, parasailing, snorkelling, diving, game fishing and so on."
