2008 News Archive - Holidays - Manta hits the heights in Florida

31 10 2008

A new rollercoaster set to open next summer in Orlando has had its highest portion of track installed.

The piece of track was secured at the apex of the Mantra ride at SeaWorld in Orlando this week - at a height of 140 feet.

Photographs of the rollercoaster on the Orlando Sentinel website show an evergreen and a US flag placed ceremonially to mark the spot.

Holidaymakers heading to Florida next summer may enjoy the ride which is said to mimic the manta rays' underwater experience, according to Tampa Bay Online, citing SeaWorld officials.

The 3,359-foot track will see riders fly horizontally under the belly of the coaster and speeds of nearly 60 miles per hour.

Quoted on the Tampa Bay website earlier this year, the Orlando attraction's vice president and general manager Dan Brown said SeaWorld was "famous for connecting guests with the sea and its amazing creatures".

"Manta does this in a way that has never been done before, creating a true sense of oneness between human and animal," he commented.
