2008 News Archive - Holidays - "No need" for specialist operators
05 02 2008
There is not much need for specialist tour operators in terms of providing holidays for same-sex couples, it has been argued.
According to Rolf Kurth, spokesperson for Aspire+, gay couples do not want to be pigeonholed, however they are attracted to destinations where they feel that their business is welcomed.
Mr Kurth added that the definition of a "gay friendly" holiday would differ from person to person.
"What's come out of [recent research] is that there isn't as much of a need, or perceived need, for specialist operators," he continued, adding that same-sex couples do not want to be "relegated to ghetto destinations".
Research by Aspire+ found that the majority of gay men would prefer to travel independently or with like-minded groups.
Check-in was found to be the most daunting experience for same-sex couples.
