2008 News Archive - Holidays - Nothing Galle-ing about this

06 11 2007

Visitors to the southern tip of Sri Lanka, being less than seven degrees north of the equator, can spend plenty of time on the beach and in the sun, but there is more to see in the historic city of Galle.

This is especially so in January, when the Galle literary festival takes place, featuring a mix of local and international writers of English language literature between the 16th and 20th of the month.

Visitors will be able to enjoy readings and poetry as well as a number of speakers and the chance to buy some of the works of the authors involved.

In addition to this, Galle features the world heritage site of the 17th Century Dutch Fort.

Either side of Galle lie some famous beach resorts, with Hikkaduwa to the north offering diving and coral, while Unawatuna to the east is one of the most renowned beaches in the world.
