2008 News Archive - Holidays - Package holidays taken by 2.5m Brits

10 04 2008

Britons take 2.5 million package holidays to exotic foreign locations each year, it has been reported.

Releasing the research, Halifax also reported that all-inclusive holidays now account for a third of such breaks.

UK travellers seeking hot weather and relaxation make the most of the facilities provided by these holiday resorts, with 70 per cent of Brits so content with the amenities provided that they do not venture elsewhere in search of entertainment.

On average, these satisfied travellers spend less than seven hours in total away from their lodgings, preferring instead to relax by the pool.

"Our research strongly suggests that the idea of a holiday, to most, is a room with pool and somewhere to eat. Package holidays such as all-inclusive allow Brits to arrive and stay put for the duration," commented Paul Birkhead, senior underwriting manager at Halifax Travel Insurance.

Mr Birkhead added that that it "makes financial sense" to make the most of the facilities provided.
