2008 News Archive - Holidays - Portugal's coastline set for bright future

29 01 2007

Tourists in Portugal can look forward to first-rate beach holidays for years to come as a result of major funding from the government.

According to the Portugal News Online, the country's stunning coastline will benefit from an investment of between €3 million or €4 million, as the authorities illustrate their commitment to the environment.

The Algarve's outstanding beaches are perhaps set to benefit more than most, which can only have a positive impact upon the region's reputation as one of Europe's leading holiday destinations.

The Portugal News Online suggests that Lagos, Amado, Portimao and Senhora da Rocha could be among the coastlines that enjoy the benefits of the investment project.

Part of the Algarve's appeal as a holiday destination lies in its attractive blend of world-class beaches, outstanding golf courses and historical interest.

Faro, for instance, was hit by a major earthquake in 1755, but much of the old town is still there to be explored.

The fishing town of Portimao is another hotspot, with Praia da Rocha the area's most popular beach resort. Popular golf courses in the region include Vilamoura Millennium, Boavista and Quinta do Lago.
