2008 News Archive - Holidays - Pride of Jo'burg

05 09 2007

Johannesburg is set to come alive at the end of September as Africa's oldest gay pride event celebrates its 18th year and provides the setting for all the usual raucous activities and outrageous outfits that are likely to be seen.

The Jo'burg Gay Pride Parade will commence from Zoo Lake Sports Club on October 6th, kick-starting a day of party fun and antics.

After the parade, revellers will be entertained by performers at the pride's Party in the Park event.

If one day of fun-filled entertainment is not enough, the festivities begin on September 27th with events taking place through the week in the run up to the dazzling parade finale.

On a serious note, the occasion will act as a reminder of South Africa's constitutional freedoms.

Visitors to the country who are staying until the end of October may want to join in the fun at the Cape Town International Kite Festival, which helps to raise funds for the Cape Mental Health Organisation.
