2008 News Archive - Holidays - Race to Egypt

Pharaoh rally racing may sound like a strange concept to some but those considering travelling to Egypt this month may end up doing just that - or at least watching the antics that ensue.

The Pharaoh Rally is held in Egypt between September 30th and October 7th, encompassing a gruelling week of driving through the arid Sahara desert - something motor fans may find incredibly challenging but exciting.

Finishing in the country's capital, Cairo, the start of the race is in Giza, which is famous as the site of the ancient Egyptian Sphinx.

The event is not for the cash-strapped however, as it costs €720 to €2,000 (£486 - £1,349) to enter, although a cheaper option might be to join the escort provided by the race organisers.

This should allow keen spectators to experience the conditions and exotic trail of the rally without feeling the heat of the competitive race.

Visitors to Egypt may also enjoy a boat trip down the Nile.
