2008 News Archive - Holidays - Recession 'will not affect holiday plans'

15 12 2008

Most Brits say that the recession has not affected their holiday plans for the coming year, according to a new poll.

The poll, conducted by Adfero, found that 80 per cent of those asked said the credit crunch would not affect their holiday plans for next year at all.

Only 20 per cent of those questioned said that they might change the length of their holiday, their destination or the time of year they chose to go away because of the economic downturn.

The statistics, which suggest that tourists in search of winter sun will not be dissuaded by the gloomy economic climate in the UK, could be seen as confirming the predictions of one industry expert.

Ian Bradley, public relations officer for the Association of Independent Tour Operators, claimed that even in straightened economic circumstances Brits view holidays as a necessity rather than a luxury.

Mr Bradley added: "People just feel the need to get away. They put money aside and say, I'm going to get away, no matter what, I need to escape the doom and gloom."
