This February a number of Britons plan on whisking their loved ones away in order to propose to them in a special location, it has been reported.

According to Abbey, research from cahoot shows that 1.8 million Britons are set to propose to their partners this year, while 703,000 women intend to take advantage of the leap year by proposing on February 29th.

It was also revealed that the biggest cost of proposing will see Brits speed their lover away to a "special venue" in order to propose - costing an average £743, or treating them to a once in a lifetime experience - at a sum of £573.

"A massive 1.8 million singles are planning to make the most of the leap year by proposing to their partners. But proposals can be expensive, especially if you're splashing out on a special event to mark the occasion," commented Matthew Timms director of cahoots.

Travelzoo recently reported that top five most romantic places in which to propose to a loved one.

These included on a beach at sunset and from a mountain top or great height.
