2008 News Archive - Holidays - Runners flock to Lisbon

17 07 2007

Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, will host its biannual half-marathon on September 16th.

The race will start in Vasco de Gama Bridge, finishing in the Parque das Nacoes in the east of the city, Whatsonwhen notes. The route is completely flat and is recommended for athletes who are looking to improve their performance.

The Vasco de Gama Bridge will allow runners in the coming half-marathon to claim they have competed on Europe's largest bridge. Opened in 1990 the crossing stretches across the river Tagus and is 17 km long.

For those unable to compete in the September race, the March half-marathon will provide a different route at the opposite end of the city.

The half-marathon in September will precede the Lisbon Marathon on December 2nd, a 42 km race around the historic city. Starting at Praca do Comercio, a mini-marathon and half-marathon are available for those who have not fully prepared for the full course.
