2008 News Archive - Holidays - 'Save money' on holiday

24 09 2008

With the rising cost of living to contend with, saving money on holidays has never been so important and, according to one travel group, there are a number of steps holidaymakers can take to make the most of their hard-earned cash.

Philip Jordan, marketing director of Essential Travel has compiled a list of top tips, which include drawing up a strict budget before leaving and shopping around for the best deals on attractions.

Trying to avoid bank charges by travelling with lots of cash is not recommended, instead holidaymakers are advised to take a mixed wallet with a combination of cash, cards and travellers cheques.

"Losing the money or, worse, having it stolen, will ultimately cost far more than the charges you’re avoiding," Mr Jordan explained.

Avoiding tourist areas and eating in local restaurants is another great way to save money, as is paying for extras such as airport carparking charges in advance.

In related news, a recent study carried out by Holiday Extras found that most Britons spend between £500 and £1,000 on their annual break in the sun.
