2008 News Archive - Holidays - Seville set to celebrate in April

20 03 2007

As April draws closer, the southern Spanish city of Seville is gearing up for the annual La Feria de Abril, the April fair that features 24-hour flamenco parties.

Running for approximately a week, the fair is a celebration of the Andalusian culture which unrivalled in Spain.

During the fair, the southern side of the Puente de la Barqueta bridge sprouts a village of canvas which is known as the Real de la Feria.

Here visitors pack over 1,000 marquees, decorated with paper lanterns, while they watch the flamenco dancers strut their stuff.

Every marquee has its own bar, serving up the popular Rebujito, a mouth-tingling mix of Manzanilla sherry and Sprite, which is served chilled and is unique to Seville.

The flamenco dancing itself usually goes on until approximately 09:00 in the morning.

And when midday hits, the Paseo de Caballos, the procession of horsemen and carriages, rolls through town in a stately parade of beautiful horses and stately riders.
