2008 News Archive - Holidays - Spanish sun shines on 14m Brits

03 08 2007

Spain is still the top getaway destination for British sun-worshippers, new statistics has found.

Information released by the Foreign Office has found that Brits love the Spanish sunshine with 14 million making the pilgrimage to the UK's favourite holiday destination between April 2005 and March 2006, Homes Worldwide notes.

Unsurprisingly, France is the next favourite with holidaying Brits as the country saw 11 million travellers visit the country over 12 months. UK neighbour Ireland came third, closely followed by the US with 4.2 million and four million UK tourists respectively.

The website attributes the country's popularity the ease of access for UK holidaymakers due to the close proximity of the country and regular cheap airline flights, as well as the advanced tourist infrastructure and of course, the hot and sunny climate.

Visitors to Spain at the end of this month may be interested to know one of the oldest horse races in Europe will take place on the beach of Sanlucar de Barrameda, Whatsonwhen reports.
