2008 News Archive - Holidays - Summer flights increase in Cyprus

07 10 2008

People on holiday in Cyprus this summer contributed to higher air passenger numbers compared to last year, new figures have suggested.

Larnaca Airport saw a 12.2 per cent increase in passenger numbers during June compared to the same month last year and a 1.1 per cent annual increase in July, according to Cyprus Civil Aviation Department data as reported by the Cyprus News Agency.

Passenger numbers were up 5.5 per cent at Paphos Airport in June and 8.8 per cent in July compared to last year’s data.

One factor which could have contributed to the rise was the 250,000 clubbers who visit the island’s Ayia Napa resort each summer.

Air traffic at Larnaca increased by 7.1 per cent in June 2008 and 2.1 per cent July while Paphos experienced a 0.5 per cent decrease and a 4.5 per cent increase respectively.

Paphos also saw a 17.7 per cent increase in cargo transport air traffic during June this summer compared to last year.
