2008 News Archive - Holidays - Summer peak expected at Dubai airport

02 06 2008

Dubai is expected to see a record high number of passengers arrive at its international airport this summer.

Gulf news reports that the airport is anticipating a 20 per cent increase on the number of passengers it handled between June and August last year during the next three months.

In total, the airport is expecting 11 million people to fly to pass through its doors – making it the busiest time for the airport since the Shaikh Rashid terminal was opened in 2000.

Paul Griffiths, chief executive officer of Dubai Airports, told the news provider: "What we are trying to do is to make sure that the journey through the airport is actually better than last year despite the increase in traffic."

France Tuke, spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents, recently described Dubai as "one of the fastest growing cities in the world".

The expert said that a significant amount of money and resources have been "ploughed into the [country's] tourism products".
