2008 News Archive - Holidays - Turkey and Egypt to be fastest growing destinations in 2009

06 01 2009

Travel experts have predicted that Turkey and Egypt will be the fastest growing destinations for UK tourists in 2009, as Brits flock to enjoy sun, sea and sand outside the eurozone.

According to the Travel Trends 2009 report, which is compiled by the Travel Association (ABTA) and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Turkey and Egypt are likely to see the greatest increases in the number of tourists from the UK this year.

Frances Tuke, a spokesperson person for ABTA, explained that Brits are unlikely to sacrifice their holidays because of the economic downturn, but may alter their choices of destination.

He added: "[Turkey and Egypt] are destinations which have been popular in the last few years because of their good value and high standards. Turkey has put a lot of new investment into hotels and five stars."

Recently another travel expert, Bob Atkinson of travelsupermarket.com, also predicted that Turkey and Egypt are likely to become holiday hotspots in 2009, as Brits try to avoid the poor euro to pound exchange rate.
