2008 News Archive - Holidays - Turkey 'tops' for Brits who pick east over west

22 07 2008

Britons are increasingly looking to Eastern Europe for holiday bargains while the current cost of the euro is so expensive, it has been reported.

According to research, based on online searches by comparison service PriceRunner, Dalaman in Turkey is one of the most popular non-eurozone destinations, TravelMole reports.

Other popular non-euro destinations include Stockholm and Copenhagen while favourite Eastern European hotspots are reported to be Sofia and Burgas in Bulgaria and Prague.

"With the poor exchange rate on the Euro we're seeing an increase in the popularity of travel within the UK or least outside of the eurozone," PriceRunner managing director Mattias Berg commented.

The comment comes after the Association of British Travel Agents reported that increased bookings have been reported for the non-euro destinations of Malta, the Caribbean, Egypt, Turkey and the US so far this year.

Bookings to the US have risen by eight per cent so far this year, the organisation claims.
