Turkey's tourism minister is targeting even more tourists, it has been revealed.

According to the Turkish Press, the Turkish culture and tourism minister Ertugrul Gunay anticipates a significant rise in tourism by 2023.

The country's tourism target is to host 50 million visitors in the coming 15 years. Tourism minister Mr Gunay added that he envisions a revenue of $50 billion (£25 billion) to come from this increased tourism.

Mr Gunay made the comments at a meeting of the Justice and Development (AK party) party's provincial directorate in Alanya.

Tourists may be considering visiting Turkey this May, as the region's Youth and Sports Day is held on May 19th 2008.

According to What's On When, this is the date when dignitaries, politicians and military leaders celebrate Ataturk's arrival at Samsun - an event that began Turkey's War of Independence.
