2008 News Archive - Holidays - Venetian marathon

20 09 2007

The famous Italian city of Venice will hold its annual marathon later this year, which could provide keen runners with the opportunity to take in some of the fantastic sights that the area has to offer.

Taking place on October 28th, fitness freaks are unlikely to feel to hard pushed with the weather forecast predicting temperatures of 15 degrees C for the time of year.

Starting in Stra, the first half of the course showcases the best of Italian countryside to the runners, as well as giving them the chance to see the stunning 18th century mansions dotted along the route.

The marathon will end in Riva Sette Martiri, facing the lagoon, after the athletes have ran over a specially-constructed bridge that takes them over the Grand Canal.

For those looking for a more relaxing affair while on holiday, spectators can of course cheer on the competitors for free.

Venice also offers visitors the chance to take in its sights on a gondola, which glide along the city's canal network.
