2008 News Archive - Holidays - Weather-weary Brits 'head abroad for weddings'

12 08 2008

An uncertain British climate means that many couples are opting to travel overseas to tie the knot, according to an industry body.

The British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) believes that Brits prefer to get wed abroad because they can cut costs by combining their annual holidays with their nuptials, especially as the cost of holding a wedding back home continues to rise.

In addition, opting for a beach resort for their wedding holidays can mean a sunny and stunning setting for those important wedding photographs.

Peter Staddon, a spokesperson for Biba, explained: "Many couples feel they are being taken for a ride in the UK and also that they cannot guarantee good British weather."

He added that many engaged couples look for destinations that offer good value for money so that they can ensure their friends and family can take part in their happy day without being under too much financial pressure.
