2008 News Archive - Holidays - Where to Goa for Christmas..?

23 10 2007

Many people think about snow-covered grounds, with a white wonderland at their doorstep and crisp, fresh powder for sledging at Christmas.

However, this hasn't been the reality for many of us in recent years - and with global warming on its way into power, Britain can expect something more like a miserable world of wind and wet rain.

So why not go the whole hog and travel to India's sunshine?!

Although possibly not at the forefront of people's minds when it comes to a place to celebrate a Christian festival, the Portuguese colonisation of the Indian state has left a legacy of fun and frolics.

As Whatsonwhen notes, the city is alive with the giving of gifts and celebration, with harmony between Christian communities and those of other faiths that sets an example of goodwill to all men - so maybe this isn't quite as untraditional a Christmas after all...

In a piece for the Guardian one holidaymaker who spent her Christmas in Goa wrote: "It was Christmas Day in sun-drenched Goa. Multi-coloured tinsel, plastic reindeers and plenty of cotton wool snow decorated our hotel ... our sons woke to find Father Christmas had done his work."

Sounds good, eh?
