With a single-stone diamond ring expected to take $900,000, according to Forbes, this sale is not for everyone, but there are plenty of opportunities to pick up a glittering gift at the more sensible end of the price range - Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Tiffany are among the famous names with stores in Dubai.

Recent research by Barclays rated Dubai as one of the top five winter locations for UK travellers this winter.
