travel news - Tunisia In New Tourism Strategy
Tunisia in new tourism strategy
January 30 2007
The Tunisian government is developing the country's tourism industry to meet the changing demands of visitors, media reports suggest.
According to Magharebia, Tunisia enjoyed a 5.3 per cent rise in the number of incoming visitors during the last few months of last year and there are hopes that this growth trajectory will be continued.
And while the traditional beach holidays remain exceptionally popular, there has reportedly been a slight change of emphasis in recent months. Officials are now promoting luxury tourism to wealthier holidaymakers and the early indications suggest that the strategy is paying off.
Yachting tourism has also been promoted as well as health tourism, environmental tourism and cultural tourism, Magharebia reports.
There are even regulations in place to ensure those in the hospitality industry portray a friendly and accessible image of the country, to counteract any negative assumptions made over the years.
Yasmine Hammamet is one of Tunisia's most popular holiday resorts thanks to its sensational beach, testing golf course and modern hotels. Port El Kantoui has been developed in a similar fashion, with the beach at the centre of much of the activity.
