Pedestrian lifestyle lures British buyers
February 12 2007
Spain remains the number one choice among British retirees, largely because of the leisurely pace of life and the exceptionally accommodating climate.
Research carried out by SAGA and Principal International reveals that the idea of living abroad is appealing to an increasing number of Brits. Approximately half of those above the age of 50 are keen on buying a property abroad, encouraged by the quality of life enjoyed while holidaying on the continent.
The factors driving investment decisions are in fact essentially the same as the factors that influence holiday choices.
Proximity to the UK is the number one concern, as this rules out the possibility of enduring unnecessarily long flights. Like holidaymakers, property buyers also pay a great deal of attention to the climate of their chosen destination.
The slower pace of life is another major attraction and Spain has unsurprisingly topped this particular table.
With its beautiful beaches, street-side cafes, siestas after lunch and unflustered locals, Spain exudes calm and relaxation, making it a perennial favourite among British holidaymakers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
