Major cash injection for Malta

Money is currently pouring into Malta to help improve facilities for holidaymakers, according to reports.

Thanks largely to a considerable investment from the European Union, tourism in Malta will benefit from Lm4.3 million (£6.7 million) and most of this money will be spent on the mainland island, according to the Malta Independent.

Safeguarding the coast is one of the key projects and it is thought that a significant chunk of the money will be used for this purpose. Malta's coastline is one of the most beautiful in Europe and so it is hardly surprising that officials are keen to preserve it.

National heritage is also a major concern, as many holidaymakers spend a good proportion of their time strolling the streets of Malta's historic cities. Zammit Dimech, the country's tourism minister, indicates that some of the money will also go towards managing tourist zones.

Mr Dimech unveiled the investment news while visiting the Dingli Cliffs, which attract thousands of tourists every single year. The cliffs offer spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea as well as Fifla Island.

They are the highest cliffs in Malta and a day out in this region can be combined with a trip to the beautiful Buskett Gardens.

The authorities recently completed restoration work on the chapel in Dingli, further adding to the splendour of this charming corner of Malta.
