Central Europe grows in popularity
March 27 2007
Countries on the Baltic and Adriatic are rapidly gaining in popularity for tourists, according to new research.
Tourists from overseas are flocking to countries like Croatia, Montenegro and Bulgaria, according to a recent survey from European Cities Marketing (ECM).
The Croatian city of Dubrovnik alone has seen an increase of 130 per cent in those taking city breaks over the last seven years.
ECM stated: "Ease of access and heavy hitting marketing campaigns have helped these cities to establish their leading position in Europe's city break market."
Nicknamed "the pearl of the Adriatic", Dubrovnik has grown by leaps and bounds as a tourist destination since 2000.
Boasting a quintessentially Mediterranean climate, with long, dry summers and cool, rainy winters, Dubrovnik has proved especially popular with British tourists.
The annual Dubrovnik Summer Festival is a treat which one cannot afford to miss, featuring an entire month of live plays, concerts and games.
